When the software burns photos in an archive to backup disks, the names of the disks are automatically added to the list on the Manage Archive tab of the Archive Settings dialog box. This list ensures that Photo Backup keeps track of the backup disks in case you need to replace or duplicate them. Click one of the following items for more details about managing your backup disks.
Duplicating disks
For your most critical data, after you back up an archive, you can make a duplicate backup disk right away. To do this, you can insert the backup disk in a drive and click Tools > Duplicate CD. You should make all duplicates with different names. You can duplicate as many backup disks as you want.
Replacing disks
If your backup disk gets damaged or lost, you can replace it easily with Photo Backup. To do this, you open the archive and remove the disk from the list on the Manage Archive tab. You can then replace the media by backing up the photos to another backup disk when you click the Make Backup button. You can do this only if the photos are still on your hard drive or you have duplicate backup disks.
Tip
• | To check whether a disk is damaged, you can click Tools > Verify CD. |
Existing backups
If you have existing archives on backup disks that are not listed on the Manage Archive tab, you can add disks to the tab to ensure that the software keeps track of those backups. To do this, you insert a disk in a media drive and click Tools > Archive Settings. Next, on the Manage Archive tab, you click the Scan Previous Backups button to add the disk to the list.
Removing photos in an archive from the hard drive
After you back up an archive to disk, you might want to remove the photos from your hard drive. Photo Backup automatically prevents you from erasing photos that you have not backed up. After you erase the photos from the hard drive, they appear in the main window with a blue label, showing that you can restore them.
