Clean the disk.
The best way to clean a CD or DVD is with compressed air. Do not use compressed solvents. You can also use a lint-free, micro-fiber cloth. For CDs, distilled water is usually safe as well. Avoid immersing the disk in water.
With a micro-fiber cloth, wipe a CD or DVD from the center of the disk out to the edges, like spokes on a bike wheel. Continue wiping until you complete a 360 degree turn of the disk. Do not wipe in a circular or back and forth motion, as this can damage the disk.
